About the event

Last year, HarborQuest: Youth Edition was a resounding success, engaging 10 youth participants in a dynamic scavenger hunt that fostered community engagement through a series of events, activities, and volunteer opportunities. Sponsored by the Port of Long Beach, this innovative, youth-led initiative demonstrated the power of gamified community involvement, sparking significant interest and enthusiasm for future events.

Building on this success, we are excited to rebrand and expand the initiative as OGC Formula Prix Cup: HarborQuest. A hallmark of Our Generation Cares is our innovative approach to youth engagement through unique components like the OGC Formula Prix. This financial literacy game is an exhilarating team-based competition where participants are divided into teams—Creators, Philosophers, Heroes, and Tradesmen—each with unique strengths and focus areas. By integrating the OGC Formula Prix into HarborQuest, we enhance the program with a robust financial literacy component, teaching essential money management and investment skills through interactive and engaging activities.

OGC Formula Prix Cup: HarborQuest will run from August 2024 to September 2024, headquartered in our youth-led downtown Long Beach coworking space, OG Cares Labs. This hub houses a vibrant community of leaders, artists, entrepreneurs, nonprofit organizations, and mentors, making it the perfect venue for local community events and civic engagement activities hosted in District 1. Youth participants from our summer program, Car & Driver 101, will be invited to continue their engagement beyond the summer by participating in this extended program. This continuity ensures that youth remain active and engaged within our community, building on the skills and connections they have developed during the summer.

In OGC Formula Prix, teams compete to earn points and financial rewards through a combination of classroom sessions and hands-on activities. Participants learn essential money management and investment skills while engaging in various community and educational activities. Teams can earn bonus points by participating in workshops, campaigns, and volunteer events, promoting a holistic approach to learning and community engagement. This also helps because youth don't always have transportation to community or volunteer events, but by working with their team, we encourage collaboration, communication, and shared transportation solutions.
